Underwater Adventures with the Men’s Club

The Men’s Club at Remuera Gardens offers monthly outings to exciting destinations, enriching the lives of our village gentlemen with new experiences and social opportunities.

One of their all-time favorite trips is their visit to Kelly Tarlton's Sea Life Aquarium, one of Auckland’s premier tourist attractions.

The residents arrived just in time to witness the feeding of the King and Gentoo penguins.

Home to thousands of marine animals, Kelly Tarlton's features the world’s largest Sub-Antarctic penguin colony exhibit, along with sharks, stingrays, jellyfish, seahorses, turtles, and more. Our residents enjoyed exploring over 30 live animal displays and interactive exhibits at this waterfront aquarium located at Ōkahu Bay. Some residents also participated in engaging keeper talks, including an insightful session about the rescued turtles and their journey towards eventual release back into the wild.

Opened in January 1985, Kelly Tarlton’s Underwater World is a remarkable example of innovative engineering, created within repurposed sewage holding tanks beneath Tamaki Drive. The aquarium replicates the underwater world of a Hauraki Gulf volcanic reef.

Each visit to Kelly Tarlton’s begins with a memorable photo at the entrance, which residents can purchase as a keepsake.

Our residents really enjoyed the unique experience of moving through a clear acrylic tunnel while traveling on a conveyor belt, surrounded by vibrant marine life.

Another highlight of the aquarium is the Rock Pool discovery area, where visitors can interact with sea stars and learn fascinating facts, such as how spiny starfish can drop and even eat their own arms to escape predators or survive periods of hunger.

Established over ten years ago, the Men’s Club at Remuera Gardens was created to offer a dedicated space for the men of the village to connect, socialize, and share their interests. Every Friday, the Men’s Club convenes at the Lounge of Beattie Lodge to plan and discuss upcoming activities and trips for the following month. A special perk of these Friday meetings is the arrival of the Coffee Van, which provides freshly brewed, barista-made coffee, allowing the gentlemen to enjoy a delicious beverage while they engage in their lively discussions and planning.

The Men’s Club at Remuera Gardens is a cherished part of village life, offering its members enriching experiences, social connection, and the joy of discovery. To learn more about joining our community, contact Lyn at 021 845 524 or email Lyn.Ellis@realliving.co.nz.

A village with heart

“I’ve never had a moment’s doubt about my decision to move to Epsom Village.” Like Karen, so many of our residents are so happy with their new lifestyle that they don’t want to keep it to themselves. As a proud New Zealand family-owned village, we offer a level of care, warmth, and personal connection that big corporate operators simply can’t replicate. With only 90 residents, Epsom Village is intimate, charming, and distinctive — a place with real character and soul.
