Music, Art, and Community Spirit to celebrate Mother's Day

Mother's Day is a significant occasion at Real Living, as we cherish the opportunity to honor the wonderful Moms, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, and mother figures in our villages.

At Epsom Village, they celebrate this date with a music concert, and for the second year in a row, they invited the Senior girls from the Diocesan School for Girls. On Saturday 11th of May, approximately ten students from Year 9 to Year 12 came to the village to showcase their musical artistry, performing timeless classics such as "Over the Rainbow" by Harold Arlen and more modern tunes like "Married Life" from the movie Up!

The students were led by Music teacher Tim Hassall, an artist and composer himself, who is deeply committed to fostering links between the school and the surrounding community. This marks the second visit of his students to the village, and their concert last year was so exceptional that the Lounge was completely filled with residents on Saturday, all eager not to miss a single note.

All the performances showcased outstanding talent, but the cello solo by student Madeleine Christiansen, performing "Elegy" by Fiare, left a lasting impression on the audience.

Pakuranga Park also commemorated Mother's Day with a special day out on Thursday 9th of May. Over 40 ladies from the village enjoyed a day filled with art and delectable treats to celebrate the special occasion. They started with a Pop-Up exhibition at Mairangi Arts Centre, where they explored remarkable pieces from local artists while enjoying some special morning tea.

After that, they headed to the Arts House Trust in Hillsborough, home to an art collection of more than 9000 works. In addition to enjoying a fantastic day, this outing also served as a Pink Ribbon event, raising funds for the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. What an inspiring group of women we have at Real Living!

Gold Award Recognition for The Avenues Apartments

Congratulations to Kalmar for taking home a Gold Award at the New Zealand Commercial Project Awards for the construction of The Avenues Apartments at Remuera Gardens. The Avenues introduced two premium apartment buildings into a fully operational retirement village, requiring careful planning and collaboration every step of the way. Delivered through challenges including major infrastructure upgrades and post-COVID supply pressures, the project was completed while preserving the character and daily life of the community already in place.

Honouring those who served

Real Living Villages are closely connected to the communities around them, which is why ANZAC Day holds such special meaning for us. Our villages not only honour the day internally with residents, but we also take pride in participating alongside the wider community whenever possible. Today we had the privilege of standing alongside the Mount Wellington–Panmure RSA for their ANZAC Day commemorations.
