Excellent coffee and food at your doorstep

Warkworth Oaks is our newest retirement village located in the heart of beautiful Warkworth village, at walking distance to essential services, public transport, cafes and restaurants. The building is adjacent to the fully refurbished Warkworth Hotel and the residents often use the elegant Southgate Room of the hotel for Art exhibitions, fashion parades and special dinners.

The setting of Warkworth Oaks is one of the retirement village’s most compelling features. The residents can relax in one of the many picturesque cafés dotted around the village, being so lucky that one of them is located right at their doorstep. On the ground floor of the Warkworth Oaks building we can find the Secret Café, a newest venue opened in February that has already become the residents’ favourite.

The Secret Café is open from Monday to Friday (7:30am to 2pm) and offers a selection of cabinet food and hot items, including Eggs Benedict, Smash burgers and waffles with bacon. Local friends Claire, Janine and Hayley are the owners of the café. The Secret Café is the first coffee shop they own but they have had plenty of experience in the hospitality industry. “We picked this name because the café is set back off the road (and footpath) and it is sort of hard to find. People seem to like that feature about the café, it has become a special destination to go.”

Claire, Janine and Hayley feel very lucky to be located on the ground floor of Real Living’s retirement village, as it gives them a great customer base for the coffee shop. “Yes, we do see a lot of the Oaks residents and many of them are regular patrons of the café. We have a very friendly relationship with the residents!”

The Secret Café has a cosy atmosphere and delicious food, but the highlight of the shop is, of course, the caffeinated beverages. In June this year there was a power outage in Warkworth and the Secret Café was one of the few venues that managed to remain open thanks to generators. It was something of a record day for them with all the food gone from their cabinets, the kitchen cupboards emptied, and an incredible number of coffees produced – just shy of 400 coffees!

If you’re around Warworth don’t hesitate to pay them a visit after visiting our lovely retirement village.

A village with heart

“I’ve never had a moment’s doubt about my decision to move to Epsom Village.” Like Karen, so many of our residents are so happy with their new lifestyle that they don’t want to keep it to themselves. As a proud New Zealand family-owned village, we offer a level of care, warmth, and personal connection that big corporate operators simply can’t replicate. With only 90 residents, Epsom Village is intimate, charming, and distinctive — a place with real character and soul.
